BioFirst announces: planning to build the first GMP medical device premise with production capacity of “Artificial Vitreous” for over 10 billion in Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park (August 12,2014)

 

President of BioFirst Dr. Tsung-Shann Jiang indicated, BioFirst’s core product “Artificial Vitreous” has excellent global patent protection coverage, BioFirst submitted patent application for over ten countries through PCT, and has received patent protection in US, Taiwan, Australia, and Korea etc., expected to dominate the global market.

This “Artificial Vitreous”, also named as “Glory Of Taiwan” has attract attentions from major manufactures across the globe, has currently signed authorization agreement with leading European Ophthalmic Pharmaceuticals. In order to protect and extend the long-term economic benefits of this technology invented originally from NHRI (National Health Research Institution), BioFirst has obtained global patent protection coverage till 2030, and also focus efforts on building world standard GMP medical device premise in Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park, which can protect the intellectual property right of its production technology as business confidentiality. The construction plan of the premise has been approved by Ministry of Science and Technologyand planned to complete first GMP standard production line by the end of this year. BioFirst will commence commercial size production when obtaining global GMP certification in 2017, annual production volume is estimated to reach 2 million vials, which accounts for over NT$20 Billion value and sufficient for global supply.

Dr. Tsung–Shann Jiang addressed, BioFirst’s “Artificial Vitreous” is the first hydrogel product used in retinal detachment repair surgery in the world, and is a class III (highest level) medical device. This is a success model for integration resources from industry and academic institution. Dr. Jiang encourages everyone to support and protect this treasury of the country, and hopes the “ Glory of Taiwan” can enlighten the window of the human soul.
